Importing records using ETL tool fails with the following error: E2CP.AutocreateContacts: System.LimitException: Apex CPU time limit exceeded

Symptoms

You are using an ETL tool (such as the Salesforce Dataloader) to import / update records in Salesforce, and encounter the following error: E2CP.AutocreateContacts: System.LimitException: Apex CPU time limit exceeded.

Solutions

This error often occurs when there is a large amount of local automation running during a data import / update. To avoid this error, we recommend trying the following steps.

1. Temporarily turn off all settings associated with the Auto-Add New Contacts feature and re-attempt the import / update.

2. If you experience the same error even with the Auto-Add New Contacts settings disabled, try adjusting the batch size in your ETL tool to process a smaller number of records per batch. (For example, if your batch size is set to 200, try adjusting it to 50 and re-attempt the import / update.)
